Armed Man Detained in Lahti After Threatening Resident with Firearm

Police detained a man in Lahti’s Ruola district on Sunday after he allegedly threatened another person with a firearm inside an apartment. The incident prompted a brief lockdown of the area as authorities secured the scene.

The emergency center received a call at 11:15 AM reporting that a man had threatened the caller with a weapon in a residential building. The caller managed to flee the apartment before police arrived, while the suspect remained inside. Iltalehti reports that the man was later described as intoxicated.

Police cordoned off the apartment and the surrounding area on Ruolankatu for approximately one hour, warning nearby residents of the potential danger. According to Helsingin Sanomat, the warnings were specifically directed at residents of neighboring buildings. The suspect was apprehended peacefully after officers issued commands.

The man is suspected of aggravated firearms offense, unlawful threat, and deprivation of liberty. Yle notes that the charges may be revised as the investigation progresses. Police suspect that intoxicants played a role in the incident. Crime scene investigations in the area are ongoing, Ilta-Sanomat reports.

Authorities have not yet released details about the sequence of events leading up to the threat. The case remains under investigation.
