Violent Incident in Turku’s Herttuankulma Investigated as Attempted Homicide
Police in Turku are investigating a violent incident in the Herttuankulma residential area as a suspected attempted homicide. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in a private residence, where several people were present at the time.
According to the Southwest Finland Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9:00 AM following an emergency call. Upon arrival, they encountered one injured victim, who received first aid from police before being transported to hospital for treatment (MTV Uutiset). Detective Chief Inspector Jari Klaus of the Southwest Finland Police confirmed to Iltalehti that the incident involved a suspected violent act, with a bludgeon believed to have been used.
A man has been detained in connection with the incident, though police have not disclosed whether he has admitted to the act. Iltalehti reports that interrogations are ongoing, with further details expected to emerge over the weekend. The suspect is estimated by an eyewitness to be around 20 years old (Iltalehti). Both the suspect and the victim are adults, according to police.
An Iltalehti reader who witnessed the police operation described seeing the victim lying on the sidewalk of Fatabuurinkatu, bleeding heavily. The witness noted that the situation did not appear immediately life-threatening, though the victim was later transported to hospital by ambulance. The same witness also observed police escorting a handcuffed man into a police vehicle.
Due to the ongoing investigation, police have declined to provide further details, including the weapon used or the condition of the victim, to avoid compromising the preliminary inquiry (Ilta-Sanomat). Authorities have indicated that additional information may be released early next week.
