Police Clear Three Men Suspected of Environmental Damage Near Pori Explosives Factory
Three men detained in early July near the Forcit explosives factory construction site in Noormarkku, Pori, have been cleared of all criminal suspicions after police investigations concluded that no environmental crime was committed. The men were initially suspected of dumping a harmful substance on the ground, but laboratory tests determined the material posed no threat to nature.
Southwest Finland Police received a report in early July about a possible oil spill near the construction site of the TNT explosives factory. A security guard at the site also reported that three individuals had erected protest banners on private property, opposing the factory project. The men were detained on suspicion of environmental damage, with two of them additionally suspected of possessing objects capable of causing serious harm—a knife in a backpack and a multitool on their person (Yle).
Iltalehti reports that the police later received information suggesting the same individuals may have spread an oily substance in the area. However, forensic analysis revealed the sample contained neither mineral oil nor any other environmentally hazardous compounds. Detective Chief Inspector Jari Klaus of the Southwest Finland Police Department confirmed in a press release that no crime had occurred, and all charges have been dropped (Yle, Iltalehti).
