Lidl customers charged twice due to card payment disruption
A technical disruption in Lidl’s card payment system led to hundreds of customers being charged twice for their purchases over the weekend. The issue, which affected Visa card transactions, occurred during Sunday and Monday, with around 200 cases of overcharging reported (Yle).
The disruption was traced to Verifone, the payment processor used by Lidl Finland. According to the company, the problem was not confined to a single store or region, with incidents reported at locations including Lidl in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki (Yle).
Lidl confirmed that the error was detected and resolved swiftly. The grocery chain stated that all duplicate charges have since been refunded, with the reimbursements expected to appear in customers’ accounts by the end of the next banking days (Yle, Iltalehti). Customer service remains available to assist those with further questions or concerns.
While the exact cause of the disruption has not been detailed, Lidl has assured that the issue has been addressed and no ongoing problems are expected.
