Man with firearm surrenders to police in Loviisa after shooting incident

Police in Loviisa responded to a report of a man armed with a firearm on Thursday afternoon, following an incident in which shots were fired at a scooter. Yle reports that the emergency call was received around midday, with eyewitnesses stating the man had discharged the weapon at a scooter parked in the yard of a private residence. No individuals were targeted or injured in the shooting.

According to Ilta-Sanomat, the man left the scene in a car and drove to another address in Ruotsinkylä, a district of Loviisa. Police located him shortly afterward and initiated negotiations. The man eventually exited the residence and surrendered without further incident. Yle confirms that the situation concluded calmly, and police took possession of the weapon.

A significant police presence was deployed to manage the incident, with multiple patrols involved. Both sources indicate that while the event caused alarm, no injuries were reported. The man’s motives remain unclear at this stage.
