Fuel Prices in Finland Decline Slightly in July Despite Year-on-Year Surge
Fuel prices in Finland saw a modest decline in July compared to the previous month, though they remain significantly higher than a year ago due to global market disruptions, according to data from Statistics Finland.
The average tax-inclusive price of diesel stood at €2.10 per litre in July, marking a nearly 3% decrease from June. Similarly, 95-octane petrol dropped by about 2% to €2.10 per litre, while 98-octane petrol fell to €2.20 per litre. Light fuel oil was priced at €1.60 per litre, reflecting a smaller monthly decline (Yle).
Despite the monthly dip, year-on-year comparisons reveal a sharp increase in fuel costs. Diesel prices surged by 25.1% compared to July 2025, while 95-octane petrol rose by 17.8% and 98-octane petrol by 16.8%. Light fuel oil experienced the steepest annual increase at 27.3% (Daily Finland).
Global Factors Drive Long-Term Price Hikes
The persistent rise in fuel prices over the past year has been attributed to geopolitical tensions, particularly the ongoing Middle East crisis and instability in Iran, which have disrupted global crude oil markets. Yle reports that these factors have kept prices elevated despite the recent monthly decline.
