On Thursday, police responded to an alert regarding a suspected munition discovered at the Joensuu Rantakatu passenger port. The incident occurred when two boys were magnet fishing and pulled up a rusty object attached to their magnet, later identified as ammunition belonging to the Defence Forces.

The East Finland Police cordoned off the area following the discovery, as reported by Iltalehti. Defence Forces clearance personnel were dispatched to retrieve the munition for safe disposal. The police lifted the cordon later that night, according to Helsingin Sanomat and Ilta-Sanomat.

Ilta-Sanomat described the object as a shell, while Iltalehti and Helsingin Sanomat referred to it as ammunition. All sources confirmed that the item originated from the Defence Forces. The police investigation determined no immediate threat to public safety, and the area was reopened after the munition was secured.
