A man died on Saturday evening after two boats collided during a powerboat race off the coast of Hovinsaari in Kotka. The incident occurred at approximately 16:21, according to the Southeast Finland Police. Iltalehti reports that the deceased was an 18-year-old Finnish man, Lenni Strandberg, with approximately ten years of racing experience, competing in the GT30 class where boats reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour. Strandberg had been racing since he was a young boy (MTV Uutiset).
