Tokmanni’s Kraft Padlocks Found to Have Security Flaw, Customer Complaints Mount
A significant security flaw has been discovered in the Kraft brand combination padlocks sold by Tokmanni, raising concerns about their reliability. The €6.49 locks, manufactured in China, can reportedly be opened in seconds without knowing the three-digit code, according to tests conducted by Iltalehti.
Security Risk Identified in Tests
Iltalehti tested three Kraft padlocks—one older model and two newly purchased—and found that all could be opened quickly using mechanical feedback from the dials, even by someone unfamiliar with the combination. A three-digit lock typically has 1,000 possible combinations (000–999), but the flaw allows users to deduce the correct code with minimal effort. A video accompanying the report shows a lock being opened in just 17 seconds.
Tokmanni’s Communications Manager, Maarit Mikkonen, stated that the company was unaware of the issue prior to Iltalehti’s findings. "We will absolutely investigate this and address it immediately. We will determine whether there is a defect in the lock. It is by no means the intention that 'just anyone' can open it," Mikkonen said (Iltalehti).
Customer Complaints Highlight Additional Issues
Beyond the security flaw, customers have reported that the locks frequently fail to open even with the correct combination. Reviews on Tokmanni’s website reflect widespread dissatisfaction, with the product receiving an average rating of just one star out of five (Ilta-Sanomat).
"The product is perfect if you want to permanently lock your belongings away," one customer wrote. Others described similar experiences:

Tokmanni has emphasized its commitment to product quality and safety. The company states that ensuring the reliability of its products is a top priority. Tokmanni operates a joint procurement company in Shanghai with the Norwegian discount chain Europris, focusing on direct imports and its own brands to improve profit margins (Iltalehti).
