Mediation in Finnish universities of applied sciences labor dispute continues
Mediation efforts in the prolonged labor dispute involving Finland’s universities of applied sciences have resumed, with talks set to continue next week. The National Conciliator’s Office confirmed that today’s session has concluded, and negotiations will reconvene on Monday at 1:00 PM (MTV Uutiset).
The dispute, which has been under mediation since early April, involves the Trade Union of Education (OAJ), the Union of Salaried Employees (YTN), and the employers’ representative, the Finnish Education Employers (Sivista). The conflict has seen multiple failed settlement attempts, including a May proposal rejected by the employer side and a June proposal turned down by OAJ (Yle).
This spring, the labor action escalated with nearly twenty 24-hour strikes at universities of applied sciences, disrupting operations across the sector (MTV Uutiset). The mediation process remains ongoing as the parties seek a resolution.
