Swimwear now permitted in saunas at Tampere region swimming halls amid hygiene debates, cultural divide, and generational split – other cities monitor trial and report early positive trends
Several municipalities in the Tampere region have introduced a trial allowing swimwear in saunas at public swimming halls. The change, effective in Tampere, Nokia, Ylöjärvi, Lempäälä, and Valkeakoski, aims to promote equality and make swimming hall services more accessible, particularly for children and young people who may feel uncomfortable undressing in front of others. The reform does not extend to other Pirkanmaa swimming halls, such as those in Orivesi and Kangasala (Iltalehti).
