Violent Assault at Satama Open Air Festival in Kemi Leaves Man in Critical Condition

A serious assault occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Satama Open Air, Lapland’s largest adult festival, held in Kemi. The victim, a middle-aged man, remains in critical condition after being struck in a public area of the event.

The incident took place shortly after midnight in Ruuttiranta, where the festival was being held. According to the Lapland Police, the suspect is a man in his twenties who has since been taken into custody. Investigating officer Tuomo Seikkula confirmed that the case is being treated as aggravated assault but did not provide further details on the circumstances leading to the attack. Ilta-Sanomat reports that the victim and suspect did not know each other prior to the incident.

Miska Sillanpää, another investigating officer, stated that the victim was struck once in the head, causing him to fall backward onto asphalt. He was subsequently transported to Oulu University Hospital for treatment (Ilta-Sanomat).

The festival, now in its 16th year, featured performances by artists including Apulanta, Käärijä, Kaija Koo, Mirella, Linda Lampenius, and Pete Parkkonen. Last year’s event attracted 15,600 visitors, according to Yle. This year’s edition concluded on Saturday.
