Man throws Molotov cocktails at Espoo hospital, suspect detained
Police in Western Uusimaa are investigating an incident in which a man threw two Molotov cocktails toward the entrance of Jorvi Hospital in Espoo early Saturday morning. The case is being treated as attempted aggravated criminal mischief.
The attack occurred around 2:30 AM, when a bystander observed the suspect arriving at the scene by car before throwing the incendiary devices toward the hospital’s emergency department entrance. Iltalehti reports that no one was injured in the incident.
A man under the age of 30 was apprehended shortly after the act and will be presented for detention later today, according to Detective Chief Inspector Mikko Alakärppä (Yle). The suspect’s motive remains unclear, and the preliminary investigation is ongoing.
MTV Uutiset notes that the incident took place on 1 August, while Ilta-Sanomat adds that the witness saw the man throw both Molotov cocktails directly at the hospital doors. Police have not yet disclosed further details about the suspect or the circumstances leading to the attack.
