Finland’s Technology Industry Workforce Reaches Post-Financial Crisis High as Retail Sector Also Shows Growth

Finland’s engineering and metal product industry has seen its workforce return to its highest level since the 2008 financial crisis, according to the latest order backlog and employment survey by Technology Industries of Finland. By the end of June 2026, the sector employed 138,200 people, matching the peak recorded in early 2023. This marks a recovery of 2,500 jobs compared to the lowest point of the recent economic downturn, with each industrial job estimated to create an additional job in other sectors—bringing the total employment impact to around 5,000 new jobs (Yle, MTV Uutiset).
