Jyväskylä Parish Removes Employee from Piispala Confirmation Camp Over Inappropriate Conduct

Jyväskylä Parish has confirmed that an employee was removed from the Piispala confirmation camp last Tuesday, 28 July, following allegations of inappropriate conduct. The decision came after the instructor reportedly threw a hymnbook into the laps of two youths during a lesson and attempted to prevent them from leaving the room.

According to a press release from the parish, the incident was thoroughly investigated both internally and by authorities. Acting vicar Paulus Pikkarainen stated that no criminal activity is suspected in connection with the events. Ilta-Sanomat reports that the instructor was replaced the following day, and before leaving, the employee apologized to the affected youths. The confirmation camp continued as planned after the incident.

The families of the two youths involved were informed of the situation, and all camp participants' families were notified about the employee’s removal. They were also offered the opportunity to contact other camp staff or parish leadership for further discussion (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).
