Serious Car Accident on Poikkimaantie in Oulu Leaves Driver Injured

A serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday morning on Poikkimaantie in the Äimäraution area of Oulu, when a passenger car drove at high speed into a ditch and collided with a tree. The North Ostrobothnia Rescue Department received an emergency call shortly after 10:00 AM, prompting a rapid response to the scene.

The rescue team found the vehicle lying on its side and had to dismantle the roof in order to safely extract the driver. Ilta-Sanomat reports that emergency medical services transported the seriously injured driver to the hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the accident and the speed of the vehicle remain unknown, as the rescue department has not yet provided further details.

Police managed traffic along the unaffected lane of Poikkimaantie following the incident. By approximately 11:00 AM, normal traffic flow had resumed (Ilta-Sanomat). Iltalehti confirms that the car crashed into a tree, requiring the roof to be removed for the driver’s extraction. Both sources indicate that the driver sustained serious injuries.
