Finnish MP Sanna Antikainen announces pregnancy after previous preterm birth
Finnish Member of Parliament Sanna Antikainen (Finns Party) has announced that she is expecting a child with her husband, with the baby due around the turn of the year. The 37-year-old MP shared the news in an Instagram post, expressing joy over the pregnancy while also reflecting on her previous experience with preterm birth.
"Finally, I dare to share that my husband and I will be welcoming an addition to our family around the turn of the year," Antikainen wrote. "My husband and I are, of course, happy that our dream of a child is coming true" (Yle).
Antikainen revealed that her first child was born prematurely in 2012 at 25 weeks and two days gestation. "Fortunately, thanks to Finnish intensive care for children, he is doing well today, and for that, I am grateful every day," she said. However, she acknowledged the lingering fear of another preterm birth, stating, "Still, I think everyone can probably imagine that the fear of another preterm birth is very real this time" (MTV Uutiset).
The MP expressed gratitude for the support she has received from Finland’s maternity and child health clinic as well as the maternity outpatient clinic. "Fortunately, the pregnancy has progressed normally so far," she added (MTV Uutiset).
