Young Man Found Dead in Pielisjoki River in Joensuu
A young man was found dead in the Pielisjoki River in Joensuu on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred near the shore of Pataluoto in the Rantakylä district, where emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 3:00 PM after reports that a person had submerged underwater.
The North Karelia Rescue Department dispatched six units, including specialized water rescue equipment, a surface rescuer, a diver, and drones to conduct the search. Iltalehti reports that a bystander observed the operation from a distance without interfering. The man was later confirmed deceased during the rescue efforts.
