Attempted rape on jogging trail in Kajaani prompts police search for suspect
Police in Kajaani are investigating an attempted rape that occurred on a jogging trail in the Soidinsuo area on Saturday, 8 August. The victim, a woman born in the 1990s, was assaulted by a man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, who police describe as having a foreign background.
The incident took place at approximately 16:30 on the jogging trail between Rentukantie and Apilapolku. According to the Oulu Police, the suspect approached the woman without warning and assaulted her. The victim resisted and managed to escape the scene (Iltalehti). Despite a search, the suspect remains at large, and authorities are now appealing for public assistance in identifying the individual.
Suspect description
The suspect is described as approximately 175–180 centimetres tall with an average build. He was wearing dark trousers, possibly jeans, and a dark hoodie or jacket with the hood up. Additional distinguishing features include a dark, thick beard covering his face, dark eyes, and dark eyebrows. Police believe the suspect may be of Middle Eastern or North African origin (Ilta-Sanomat).
Call for public observations
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s movements to come forward. Observations are particularly sought regarding individuals matching the description in the area of the jogging trail between Laajankatu, Soidinkatu, and Apilapolku.
