Fatal Crash on Turku Motorway and Earlier Traffic Disruption Near Veikkola
A serious traffic accident on the Turku motorway in Vihti resulted in the death of a young adult male on Monday morning. Meanwhile, a separate incident near Veikkola on Sunday caused a temporary traffic jam after a rear-end collision.
Fatal Accident in Vihti
A single-vehicle crash near the Palojärvi junction led to the death of the driver, identified by police as a fully adult but relatively young man. Yle reports that the car veered off the road, struck a cliff face, and subsequently caught fire. The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 AM, with only the driver present in the vehicle at the time.
The road was closed for over five hours, reopening at 10:30 AM, while rescue operations, clearance work, and a police technical investigation were conducted. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to the Western Uusimaa Police.
Rear-End Collision Near Veikkola Causes Delays
On Sunday, a rear-end collision between two passenger cars near Veikkola caused a brief traffic disruption on the Turku highway. The Western Uusimaa Rescue Department confirmed the incident, stating that the vehicles were quickly moved aside, and the situation was resolved in under 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
During the congestion, an Onnibus coach overtook the queue of cars by driving on the right-hand shoulder with its hazard lights on. Witnesses described the maneuver as dangerous and unnecessary. Iltalehti quotes one driver, Ville, who estimated the bus was traveling at around 60 km/h and came close to striking side mirrors.
“It looked a bit reckless coming from a large company,” another witness, Paavo, told Iltalehti, adding that the bus may have driven 1–2 kilometers on the shoulder. Ville noted that the delay caused by the accident was short-lived, making the overtaking maneuver pointless.
