Finnair Flight From Lisbon Triggers Alarm at Helsinki Airport
A Finnair aircraft arriving from Lisbon on Sunday evening experienced a technical fault that caused a loud alarm to sound in the cabin as it taxied toward the gate at Helsinki Airport. The incident startled passengers, though Finnair has confirmed it posed no safety risk.
Passenger Eliel Parpola, who was on board the flight, described the moment the alarm activated shortly after landing. MTV Uutiset reports that the lights above the seating rows began flashing, and a siren-like sound filled the cabin. The alarm persisted for several minutes, continuing even as passengers disembarked. Parpola noted that no announcement was made to explain the situation, leaving travelers to speculate about the cause.
Finnair’s communications later clarified that the alarm was triggered by a technical fault in the cabin’s internal communication system. Ilta-Sanomat quotes the airline as comparing the issue to a doorbell getting stuck, causing the system’s call tone to remain active. The fault was repaired after the aircraft was emptied.
While the airline confirmed the situation was not dangerous, it remains unclear whether passengers were informed of the cause during the incident. Finnair has stated that the matter is under investigation.
