Fire in Rovaniemi apartment building suspected to be arson
A fire that broke out late Monday evening in an apartment building in Rovaniemi is under investigation as a suspected case of arson. The blaze originated in a fourth-floor apartment on Korkalonkatu, near the city center.
The rescue department received the first emergency call at approximately 11:00 PM (Yle). According to a bulletin from the rescue department, the fire was contained to the apartment where it started, though smoke spread into the stairwell (Iltalehti). No injuries were reported.
Four units from the rescue department, police, and emergency medical services responded to the scene (Iltalehti, Ilta-Sanomat). Authorities suspect the fire was started deliberately, and the police are continuing their investigation (Ilta-Sanomat).
