Stora Enso has announced co-determination negotiations for its Uimaharju business unit in Joensuu, impacting approximately 380 employees across the pulp mill and adjacent sawmill. The negotiations, set to begin on 17 August and last at least three weeks, aim to address reductions and organizational changes within the unit.

The company plans to cut up to 35 positions as part of the restructuring. Additionally, the negotiations may result in task reorganizations, organizational restructuring, and the formation of new job roles at both the pulp mill and sawmill. Around 70 of the affected employees work at the sawmill, while the remaining 310 are based at the pulp mill (Yle).

Ilpo Räty, head of the Uimaharju unit, cited global market uncertainty and rising costs—particularly in energy and logistics—as the primary reasons for the negotiations. He explained that the goal is to integrate the pulp mill and sawmill more closely, as they currently operate as a single business unit (Yle).

Stora Enso has stated that the measures are intended to improve the competitiveness and efficiency of the Uimaharju operations (MTV Uutiset). The outcome of the negotiations could lead to terminations, changes in job roles, or other structural adjustments.
