A baby was born on a VR Intercity train traveling from Helsinki to Vaasa on Tuesday evening. The birth occurred during the journey, marking an exceptional event for the rail operator.

According to Ilta-Sanomat, the first outlet to report the incident, the parent and newborn were taken by ambulance after disembarking the train in Seinäjoki. VR’s Communications Manager Tiina Nummenmaa confirmed that an ambulance was waiting at the station as a precaution (MTV Uutiset). The train, Intercity 49, arrived in Seinäjoki on schedule.

VR has stated it is unaware of any similar births on its trains in recent years. The company has not provided further details on the condition of the parent or the baby, nor has it commented on the specifics of the birth (MTV Uutiset).

The incident was initially reported by Ilta-Sanomat, with additional details later confirmed by VR to other media outlets.
