The Latvian Armed Forces issued an air threat warning in Latvian airspace early Friday, urging residents to seek shelter indoors. Helsingin Sanomat and Ilta-Sanomat report that the Latvian military instructed the public via the messaging service X to avoid approaching any low-flying or suspicious objects and to contact emergency services if such objects were spotted. The alert, initially issued for parts of Latvia’s eastern regions near the borders of Russia and Belarus, was later lifted (MTV Uutiset). Ilta-Sanomat adds that the air raid alert was canceled shortly after NATO ally fighter jets shot down a drone in Latvian airspace at approximately 4:45 AM. Authorities in Latvia confirmed the downing of the drone, though no details on its origin or affiliation were provided (Yle). Finland was not involved in the incident, according to Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen (Ilta-Sanomat).
