Police in Vantaa are investigating a serious act of violence that took place in an apartment in Myyrmäki on Thursday, 13 August. The incident is being treated as aggravated assault, though authorities have not yet disclosed details about the victims or suspects.

The Eastern Uusimaa Police Department received an emergency call on Thursday morning reporting that a person was in poor condition at an address on Loiskekuja. Bloodstains were also found in the courtyard of the housing company, prompting a large-scale response from law enforcement and rescue services. Ilta-Sanomat (IS) reports that multiple police cars, ambulances, and even a helicopter were seen at the scene, while witnesses told Iltalehti that at least one person was taken into custody and a vehicle was towed from the area.

The apartment in question is believed to be home to a family with young children. Neighbors described seeing children’s toys on the balcony and a father frequently spending time outside with a child under school age. One resident told Iltalehti the situation was “extremely, extremely sad,” though others noted that the building had been unusually restless in recent months. Despite the visible police activity, the residential area appeared calm by Friday, according to IS.

Police Maintain Secrecy as Investigation Continues

Authorities have remained tight-lipped about the case, citing its early stages. Detective Chief Inspector Simo Juntunen, who is leading the investigation, declined to comment on potential charges when contacted by Iltalehti on Friday. In a police bulletin, Juntunen stated that forensic investigations are ongoing and that the criminal classification of the case may still change as more details emerge. MTV Uutiset reports that further information is not expected to be released until at least next week.

The door of the apartment was sealed with police tape, and signs of a thorough forensic examination were visible. While neighbors speculated about the nature of the violence, no official confirmation has been provided regarding the identities or conditions of those involved. The presence of children’s belongings at the scene has heightened concerns among residents.
