Flow Festival kicks off sold-out weekend with 32,000 visitors in Helsinki
Flow Festival opened its 2024 edition in Suvilahti on Friday, drawing 32,000 visitors for a sold-out first day that blended major headliners with emerging acts across its renewed festival site. The event, known for its artistic and culinary offerings, featured a mix of music, fashion, and performance art under bright summer weather.
Swedish pop star Zara Larsson headlined the evening, delivering a polished set that captivated the crowd. Finnish festivalgoer Ella Toivonen was invited on stage to dance alongside Larsson during the performance of Lush Life, an experience she described as surreal even the following day. Yle reports that Larsson’s influence extended beyond the music, with many attendees emulating her style in their outfits.
The festival’s diverse lineup included electronic duo Disclosure, who took over the Silver Arena after dark, while French artist Oklou made her Finnish debut with an ethereal set that transformed the large venue into an intimate space. The Black Tent featured Louna0nline, and the Front Yard spotlighted electronic acts like Kettama and DJ Gigola. Meanwhile, MASTERMINTTU presented a fashion performance showcasing emerging designer kboy as part of Flow’s art program.
Despite being the most expensive major music festival in Finland—with a three-day general admission ticket priced at €279—attendees appeared unfazed by the high costs. Yle notes that many festivalgoers do not adhere to a strict budget, embracing the event’s premium food, drinks, and overall experience.
