Fatal Rail Accident in Turku Causes Delays on Tampere Route

A fatal rail traffic accident in Turku has resulted in the death of one person and significant disruptions to train services between Turku and Tampere. The incident occurred on Monday evening near the Old Tampere Road, according to Ilta-Sanomat.

The Southwest Finland Police Department confirmed the death in a bulletin, stating that trains in Turku are not running due to a personal injury incident on the tracks. Rescue services were alerted to a medium-sized rail accident shortly after 6:00 PM (Iltalehti).

VR, Finland’s state-owned railway company, reported that an Intercity train traveling from Turku to Tampere is delayed by approximately 70–90 minutes due to the incident.
