Finnish Coastal Fleet conducts large-scale air defense exercise in Archipelago Sea
The Finnish Coastal Fleet has launched a large-scale firing exercise at the Örö firing ranges in the Archipelago Sea, with operations set to continue until Thursday. The exercise focuses on enhancing air defense capabilities and naval artillery proficiency, according to the Defense Forces.
Yle reports that the training aims to improve the fleet’s ability to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of varying sizes using different weapon systems. Additionally, the exercise will test personnel’s readiness to operate under drone threats, reflecting evolving security challenges in the region.
All squadrons of the Coastal Fleet are participating in the exercise, which involves both vessels and personnel. MTV Uutiset notes that the drills are part of broader efforts to strengthen Finland’s maritime defense capabilities.
