Man Sentenced for Sexual Harassment at Construction Site and Teenager Convicted for Harassing Classmate

A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months of suspended imprisonment for sexually harassing a female trainee at a construction site in Nokia in October 2025. The District Court of Pirkanmaa ruled that the man, who was responsible for familiarizing the trainee with her duties, subjected the woman to repeated unwanted physical contact. According to Ilta-Sanomat, the harassment included grabbing the woman’s breasts over her clothes, putting his hand under her shirt, touching her hips, and kissing her on the mouth. The man also attempted to unbutton her pants before the woman told him to stop.

The court found the woman’s account credible, supported by messages sent immediately after the incident and witness observations of her distress. The man denied the charges, claiming the woman had initiated the advances, but the court dismissed this as implausible. He was ordered to pay the victim €1,500 for suffering and €700 for temporary harm, in addition to approximately €2,500 in legal costs. The verdict is not legally binding, as the man has appealed to the Turku Court of Appeal (Ilta-Sanomat).

Teenager Convicted for Sexual Harassment at Vocational School

In a separate case, a 16–17-year-old boy was convicted of sexually harassing a 15-year-old classmate at a vocational school in Lapland in 2024. Iltalehti reports that the boy repeatedly subjected the girl to sexually suggestive behavior, including attempting to push a drink can between her breasts, making crude remarks about her birthday, and presenting her with a condom wrapped in a 20-euro note. The girl described the behavior as humiliating and violating, leading her to change her clothing, avoid speaking in class, and experience anxiety about attending school.

The boy claimed his actions were meant as jokes, but the Lapland District Court ruled that his behavior met the criteria for sexual harassment. He was sentenced to a fine of 20 day-fines, totaling €120 based on his income, and ordered to pay the victim €700 in compensation, along with €960 in legal aid costs (Iltalehti).
