OAJ Issues Strike Warning to Six Universities of Applied Sciences Over Labour Dispute
The Trade Union of Education in Finland (OAJ) has issued a strike warning to six universities of applied sciences, threatening a three-day walkout beginning on 1 September if no agreement is reached in an ongoing labour dispute. The warning concerns negotiations over a new collective agreement for the sector, which expired in March.
The National Conciliator has presented two settlement proposals in the dispute, neither of which has been accepted. The first proposal was rejected by the employer side, Sivista, while OAJ rejected the second. Yle reports that the union has criticised the employer’s proposals, stating they would weaken teachers’ salaries and salary development.
Sivista, representing the universities of applied sciences, has accused OAJ of complicating the start of the academic year for students. The dispute remains unresolved, with both parties yet to reach a consensus on the terms of a new collective agreement.
