New Jorvi Hospital Ward Building to Open in Phases from Late August
Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) has announced that the new ward building at Jorvi Hospital in Espoo will begin operations in phases starting from the end of August. The facility will integrate specialized medical care, emergency and maternity services, and primary healthcare under one roof (Iltalehti).
The €259 million construction project, completed on schedule and within budget, features six adult wards and two pediatric wards, along with 367 bed spaces. Over 600 employees will work in the new building, which also includes day units, outpatient services, and imaging facilities (Yle).
Modern Facilities Designed for Patient Comfort
The maternity ward will house 12 delivery rooms and three cesarean section rooms, while nearly all patient rooms have been designed as family rooms. These rooms allow loved ones to visit without restrictions on visiting hours, a departure from traditional hospital policies (Yle; Iltalehti).
Architect Tuija Ylä-Rautio from HUS’s Property and Facilities Services described the spaces as "aesthetically clean and beautiful," emphasizing the collaborative planning process with hospital staff (Yle).
Comprehensive Services Under One Roof
In addition to clinical care, the building will provide support services such as medical technology, bed maintenance, a cleaning center, and a centralized assistive device service. The phased opening will include the launch of maternity services, specialized care for adults and children, and imaging services (Iltalehti).
