Fire Incidents Reported in Espoo and Helsinki
A detached house in Espoo and a terraced house in Helsinki have been the sites of separate fire incidents this week, with emergency services responding to both scenes.
Fire in Espoo
A structural fire broke out in a detached house on Alamyllynkuja in Espoo on Tuesday afternoon. The West Uusimaa Rescue Department received an emergency call at 14:31 and dispatched seven units to the scene. Thick smoke from the blaze was visible from a distance, with Ilta-Sanomat reporting that the house appeared to be abandoned based on reader-submitted photos and tips. The building was also noted to be covered in graffiti.
The rescue department confirmed that initial firefighting efforts were underway and that no injuries had been reported. While the type of building involved was not specified, authorities stated that the fire posed no risk to local residents. The site is located near the historic ruins of Bemböle Mill, an 18th-century structure with roots dating back to the 16th century (Ilta-Sanomat).
Fire in Helsinki
In Helsinki, a terraced house on Peltokyläntie in the Siltamäki district caught fire early Wednesday morning. The Helsinki Rescue Department received an alarm shortly after 2:00 AM, with 13 units deployed to the scene. Fire chief Petri Strandberg reported that the fire started on the exterior wall before spreading to the roof structures. Extinguishing efforts were still ongoing before 3:00 AM (Helsingin Sanomat).
