Organized Phone Thefts Target Tampere Nightclub, Police Suspect International Perpetrators
Police in Tampere are investigating a series of organized phone thefts at a local nightclub, with at least ten devices stolen over the past two weekends. Detective Chief Inspector Joni Länsipuro of the Central Finland Police Department confirmed the incidents, stating that multiple phones were taken from Henkka, a nightclub on Hämeenkatu, on consecutive Saturdays.
Länsipuro told Aamulehti (AL) that the thefts appear to be part of a coordinated effort, with more than one perpetrator suspected. "Individual phones are always stolen or lost, but this is clearly a different phenomenon," he said. Authorities believe the suspects may be from outside Finland, as payment cards linked to the stolen devices have been attempted for use in Romania and other locations (Ilta-Sanomat).
The police are actively working to halt the thefts, though Henkka has not responded to requests for comment (Ilta-Sanomat). Both Iltalehti and Ilta-Sanomat report that the case is being treated as organized crime, with financial motives likely driving the thefts. No arrests have been made at this time.
