Summer Storm Warning: Heavy Rainfall, Strong Winds, and Flooding Risks as Severe Weather System Hits Southern and Eastern Finland

Finland is experiencing mixed and unstable weather conditions this week, with rain affecting large parts of the country while some regions enjoy sunshine. Meteorologists describe the weather as highly variable, with heavy showers already recorded in some areas and more significant rainfall expected over the weekend—though the forecast has seen notable shifts in recent days. Unusually heavy rainfall in northern Finland has already caused flash flooding, with water levels in several rivers in Northern Ostrobothnia and Lapland reaching exceptionally high levels for this time of year (Yle). Flood and rain warnings have been issued for more than 20 municipalities in Northern Ostrobothnia, as the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s 30-day data shows it has rained almost every day this month in Oulu (Yle).
