Conscript injured in hand grenade explosion during training in Niinisalo
A conscript sustained a minor hand injury on Friday morning after a practice hand grenade exploded during a shooting exercise at the Pori Brigade in Niinisalo. The incident occurred shortly after 10:00 AM, according to the Army (Helsingin Sanomat).
The Pori Brigade confirmed that the conscript was injured when the training grenade detonated in his hand. A field medic examined the injury on-site, and the conscript was later taken to the garrison hospital for further assessment (Yle). The Army stated that the explosion posed no risk to others present during the exercise (Helsingin Sanomat).
The conscript’s next of kin have been notified of the incident. This is the second such incident in recent months, following a similar explosion involving a practice hand grenade in May (Helsingin Sanomat).
