Measles Outbreak Linked to Ferry Travel Between Åland and Sweden, Urkult Festival – Cases Rise to 27 in Sweden, One Confirmed in Finland

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has confirmed that a person infected with measles traveled on ferries between Åland and Sweden earlier this month. The individual, who has been vaccinated, traveled on the Viking Glory from Mariehamn to Stockholm on 13 August, departing at 14:25, as well as on an Eckerö Linjen ferry from Grisslehamn, Sweden, to Eckerö on 15 August at 20:00 (Helsingin Sanomat, MTV Uutiset, Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti). Yle reports that this case originated from Finland and is linked to the broader outbreak tied to the Urkult festival. THL has since confirmed that one measles case linked to the Urkult festival has also been reported in Finland (Yle).
