Smoke Incident Disrupts Hakaniemi Metro Station, No Fire Confirmed
A smoke-related incident at Hakaniemi metro station caused disruptions to metro services in Helsinki on Saturday morning. The Helsinki Rescue Department received an automatic alarm around 11:00 regarding a potential vehicle fire underground on Toinen linja in the Kallio district (MTV Uutiset).
According to the Rescue Department, a small amount of smoke had spread from a metro carriage, though no actual fire was detected. Iltalehti reports that an electrical smell and smoke were noticeable at the station, and the metro’s sprinkler system had activated. A witness at the scene did not observe any flames (Iltalehti).
Passengers were evacuated from the affected train, and no injuries were reported (MTV Uutiset, Iltalehti). Hakaniemi metro station was closed following the incident.
Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) announced disruptions to metro services, with traffic suspended between Kamppi and Kalasatama. Initially, the disruption was estimated to last until around 13:00 (Iltalehti), though MTV Uutiset later reported that services were expected to resume by 12:00.
