Two Aggravated Jewelry Store Thefts in Central Helsinki Within Days

A series of high-value thefts has targeted jewelry stores in central Helsinki, with police investigating both incidents as aggravated theft. The latest occurred at Lindroos, a luxury watch and jewelry store located in Kämp Galleria on Mikonkatu, where a thief broke a display window and stole three valuable open-face watches.

The break-in was discovered on Saturday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m., according to store CEO Antti Keisu (Yle). The perpetrator gained access to the showcase by smashing the display window before making off with the watches. Yle reports that the police have classified the case as aggravated theft but are not releasing further details at this time.

Keisu expressed concern over the rise in vandalism in the area but confirmed that the store would resume normal operations once repairs and cleaning were completed.

This incident follows a similar theft at Holmaston, a jewelry and watch store on Aleksanterinkatu, which occurred during the night between Sunday and Monday. Ilta-Sanomat (IS) reports that the thieves stole jewelry and luxury watches in that case as well. Police described the Holmaston theft as cross-border crime and confirmed that some suspects were apprehended shortly after the incident following a chase, during which they abandoned their vehicle (IS).

Both cases remain under investigation, with authorities treating them as serious offenses. The proximity of the two incidents has raised concerns among local businesses about security in central Helsinki.
