Two Major Traffic Accidents Cause Delays and Injuries Across Southern and Western Finland

Two significant traffic accidents on Saturday morning disrupted major highways in southern and western Finland, resulting in injuries, fatalities, and severe congestion.

Accident on Highway 3 in Ylöjärvi

A collision occurred on Highway 3 between Tampere and Vaasa in Ylöjärvi at approximately 8:30 AM. The incident involved a trailer transporting a Finnish Defence Forces tracked vehicle, whose rear overhang struck the side of a coach on the ramp leading to the highway. The exact location was between the Ylöjärvi junction and Kolsoppi.

Sami Lindberg, the on-duty fire chief of the Pirkanmaa Rescue Department, confirmed that emergency medical services assessed two individuals at the scene, though serious injuries were reportedly avoided. The Finnish Defence Forces stated that no personal injuries resulted from the incident (Helsingin Sanomat). Police and rescue personnel were present, with the rescue department managing traffic at the site.

Accident on Turunväylä in Espoo

A separate accident took place on Turunväylä in Espoo, between the Tuomarila junction and the Ring II junction. According to Finntraffic, one lane was closed, causing severe congestion in the direction of Turku. An eyewitness told Ilta-Sanomat that multiple ambulances, rescue units, and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene, where clearance work was still ongoing.

Traffic on the affected section was described as heavily congested, with delays expected to persist as authorities worked to clear the site.
