Fatal Traffic Accident in Paimio Leaves One Dead and Seven Injured

A serious traffic accident on a motorway in Paimio on Saturday resulted in one fatality and seven injuries. The incident occurred when a car drove through a maintenance hatch into the oncoming lane, colliding with two vehicles traveling toward Turku.

The deceased was a passenger in the vehicle driven by the suspect, according to Detective Chief Inspector Valtteri Kemppi of the Southwest Finland Police (Yle). The suspect, who is currently in custody, has been interrogated, but authorities have not determined why the driver entered the oncoming lane through the maintenance hatch.

The case is being investigated as gross negligent homicide, gross endangerment of traffic safety, gross bodily injury, gross drunk driving, and a drug use offense (Yle). The injuries sustained by those involved are not life-threatening.

The Southwest Finland Police confirmed to STT that the fatality was a passenger in the suspect’s car and that the accident involved a collision with two other vehicles after the suspect’s car entered the wrong lane (MTV Uutiset). The investigation remains ongoing.
