Police investigate suspected violent crime in Rovaniemi

Police in Rovaniemi are conducting a large-scale operation in a detached housing area following a suspected violent crime. The incident, which does not pose a danger to bystanders, has drawn multiple patrols and heavily equipped officers to the scene.

The emergency call was received at 1:07 PM, with initial reports indicating a violent crime at a private residence (Yle). Authorities arrived swiftly, with an eyewitness telling Iltalehti that four patrol cars approached with sirens blaring. Police and rescue workers were observed entering the property, and at least two injured individuals were reportedly assisted—one in front of the house and another, visibly bloodied, carried into an ambulance from behind the building.

Iltalehti reports that officers were seen entering the rear of the property with assault rifles, while both police and ambulance personnel wore bulletproof vests. The newspaper has reviewed images and videos supporting the eyewitness account, including footage of a bloodied man being transported on a stretcher.

The Oulu Police Department’s command center confirmed the operation but declined to provide details, stating that the investigation is ongoing (Ilta-Sanomat). A later police bulletin clarified that the incident involves a suspected violent crime, though no further information has been released (Yle). The area has been cordoned off as authorities continue their work.
