Fire at Tammisaari Swimming Hall in Raasepori Investigated as Possible Arson
A fire broke out at the Tammisaari Swimming Hall in Raasepori on Saturday evening, with authorities reporting that the blaze appeared to still be smoldering the following morning. The Western Uusimaa Rescue Department received an alert about a medium-sized building fire at 6:00 AM on Sunday, dispatching eight units to the scene.
According to on-duty fire chief Tatu Karttunen, the fire originated in a restroom at the swimming hall, causing structural damage and allowing smoke to spread to other parts of the facility. The hall was evacuated, and three individuals were transported to Raasepori Hospital for examination after inhaling smoke (Ilta-Sanomat).
Both the Tammisaari Swimming Hall and the adjacent Tammisaari Ball Sports Hall, which share the same building, have been closed until further notice due to the incident.
Possible Arson Investigation
Police are investigating the possibility that the fire may have been deliberately set, as a second fire broke out at the same location on Sunday. MTV Uutiset reports that the initial blaze on Saturday began in the restroom facilities, producing significant smoke and prompting the evacuation of the entire swimming hall. The three individuals taken for medical examination were also noted in this incident.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the fires or the ongoing investigation.
