Girl bitten by pike in Parkano lake incident
A young girl was bitten by a pike while cooling her feet in Lake Linnajärvi in Parkano during Midsummer celebrations, according to accounts from her family.
Kimmo Bister, who was spending the holiday at the lake with his family, reported that his daughter had been standing in the shallow water near the shoreline. Helsingin Sanomat reports that the family initially identified the animal as a pike. Iltalehti adds that Bister described how a larger wave suddenly soaked his daughter, after which she began crying hysterically. The girl immediately claimed an otter had bitten her, though the family later determined the attacker was a fish.
The bite left visible marks from canine-like teeth on the girl’s right foot, affecting both the instep and sole (Iltalehti). Bister stated that the family contacted emergency services, though responders were reportedly uncertain about how to handle the rare incident. The girl was subsequently taken to emergency care, where she received a course of antibiotics to treat the bite (Helsingin Sanomat, Iltalehti).
