A 22-year-old man from Vaasa has been detained on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide following a violent incident on Midsummer’s Eve. The crimes are alleged to have taken place near the city centre, at Asemakatu 37, on 19 June.

Police received a report of the incident at approximately 10:30 AM, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene (Iltalehti). The Ostrobothnia Police Department initially sought public assistance in locating two suspected perpetrators who had fled the area. Both individuals were apprehended within 24 hours, though only one—the 22-year-old—has been formally detained (Iltalehti).

The man was taken into custody by a district court decision on Sunday, 21 June. Authorities have stated that, based on current information, there are no other suspects in the case (Yle, Ilta-Sanomat).

According to Iltalehti, the detained man has almost no prior criminal record, with the exception of a past charge for aggravated endangerment of traffic safety. Address records indicate he resides in a detached house area a few kilometres from Vaasa’s city centre.

Police have not disclosed further details about the case, citing ongoing investigations (Yle). The incident remains under active investigation by the Ostrobothnia Police Department.
