Track System Fault Causes Delays and Cancellations on Helsinki-Riihimäki Route
A track system fault between Jokela and Purola is causing significant disruptions to train services on the Helsinki-Riihimäki route, with delays and cancellations affecting both commuter and long-distance trains.
VR has reported delays of 30 to 70 minutes for trains operating on the affected section. Ilta-Sanomat (IS) states that one R-train from Riihimäki to Helsinki has been canceled due to the fault, while the IC80 service from Jyväskylä to Helsinki is running 32 minutes behind schedule. Yle adds that the R-train departing Helsinki for Riihimäki at 8:07 is also delayed by 32 minutes, with some individual commuter train services canceled as well.
The fault is expected to impact services until 15:00, according to VR’s estimates (Yle). Similar disruptions occurred last Wednesday on the same section, affecting trains between Helsinki and Tampere. At the time, VR’s communications noted that "the main line carries a lot of trains, so the fault affects many trains" (IS).
Passengers are advised to check VR’s website for real-time updates on delays and cancellations.
