Over 26,000 Students Graduate from Finnish Upper Secondary Schools This Spring
This spring, approximately 26,500 students will complete their upper secondary education and graduate as high school graduates in Finland. The number marks an increase of around 1,100 graduates compared to spring 2025, according to Helsingin Sanomat.
To qualify as a high school graduate, students must complete the required matriculation examination exams as well as the full upper secondary education curriculum—or another legally defined degree or education—Iltalehti explains. The Matriculation Examination Board, which oversees the process, has released the names of this year’s graduates to the media.
"Behind every grade and examination is a lot of work. Now is the time to enjoy and be proud of one’s achievement," said Tiina Tähkä, Secretary General of the Matriculation Examination Board, in a press release cited by Iltalehti.
Public Search Tools for Graduates
Both Helsingin Sanomat and Iltalehti have published online search tools allowing the public to look up this year’s graduates. The databases include all students who have not opted out of having their names published.
Iltalehti’s search tool enables users to find graduates by name, municipality, or school, while Helsingin Sanomat also provides a similar search function. The data in both tools is sourced from the Matriculation Examination Board.
