Government in Open Dispute Over €84 Million Cuts to Social and Health Organization Funding as Rydman Defies Orpo’s Review Demand
The Finnish government is implementing significant cuts to state funding for social welfare and health organizations, reducing next year’s budget by €84 million. The Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organizations (STEA) announced on Monday that organizations will receive approximately €190 million in 2025, down from €274 million this year—a nearly one-third reduction. MTV Uutiset now reports that the cuts could result in the loss of up to 2,000 jobs in the NGO sector compared to 2024 levels, with STEA estimating that 8,792 employees worked in grant-funded projects in 2024, equating to approximately 5,526 person-years.
