The Finnish Defence Forces will update its hair regulations from the beginning of July, allowing men to have long hair for the first time. The new guidelines will align with the existing rules for women, permitting long hair as long as it is not worn loose (Yle).

The change is part of a broader update to the Defence Forces’ general service regulations, which also includes clearer definitions of harassment and bullying, as well as refined guidelines for shared accommodation (MTV Uutiset). The standardisation of hair regulations was previously reported in March, when plans for the update were first announced (MTV Uutiset).

The updated rules aim to modernise the Defence Forces’ policies while maintaining operational standards. No further details on enforcement or additional changes have been disclosed.
