Labour dispute in Finnish universities of applied sciences remains unresolved
The labour dispute affecting universities of applied sciences in Finland has not been resolved, as the Trade Union of Education in Finland (OAJ) rejected the second settlement proposal presented by the National Conciliator’s Office. The proposal was accepted by the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers (Sivista) and the Union of Salaried Employees (YTN), as well as the employers’ side, represented by the Finnish Education Employers (Yle; MTV Uutiset).
According to the National Conciliator, a cooling-off period will now take place in mediation, with further steps to be announced separately (Yle). The dispute has been under mediation since early April, and the National Conciliator is expected to continue efforts after the summer break (MTV Uutiset).
OAJ has criticised the proposal, stating that the new pay system would leave the salary development of teaching staff largely at the discretion of employers (MTV Uutiset). No immediate resolution to the dispute is expected.
